GITEX 2026 Is Moving: A Networking Playbook for the Region's Biggest Tech Week

New venue, new dates, same problem: thousands of conversations and almost no time to follow up. Here is how to prepare now.

For years, GITEX has meant October in the heart of Dubai, around Dubai World Trade Centre. This year, the calendar and the map both change.

GITEX GLOBAL 2026 moves to the Dubai Exhibition Centre at Expo City Dubai, from 7 to 11 December. The Dubai Media Office announced the move in October 2025, describing a venue that is undergoing a $2.7 billion expansion. The organisers say the first day, 7 December, is the GITEX Scale Summit, with the exhibition running from 8 to 11 December, and they are positioning the week as a "TechCation" designed for longer stays and extended networking.

The scale is familiar. According to the organisers, the 2025 edition brought together 6,800 exhibitors, 2,000 startups and 1,200 investors, with participants from 180 countries.

That is the opportunity, and the problem. At a show that size, meeting people is easy. Being remembered by the right ones is hard. With nearly three months to go, here is a playbook for doing it well.

The Real Problem Is Not Meeting People

Anyone who has walked GITEX knows the pattern. By the second afternoon, your pocket holds a stack of cards, your phone holds a dozen new WhatsApp chats with no names saved, and your memory holds a blur of stands and handshakes.

A week later, you remember perhaps five conversations clearly. The other forty fade. Some of them were the ones that mattered.

The goal of event networking is not volume. It is recall: making sure that when someone looks at your name a week later, they remember who you are and why they should reply. Everything below serves that goal.

Before the Show: September to November

Decide who you actually need to meet

Write a short list, no more than twenty names or company types, of people who could change your next year. Investors in your stage and sector. Two or three potential partners. Buyers in a specific vertical.

A list turns a week of wandering into a week of intent. It also tells you which halls, talks and side events deserve your time.

Book the first conversation before you arrive

The most productive GITEX meetings are often arranged weeks before the show. In the Gulf, a warm introduction still outperforms a cold message by a wide margin, so ask your network who knows the people on your list, and ask for an introduction on the channel they actually use, which is often WhatsApp.

A short message works well: who you are, why this person, and a specific ask. "Fifteen minutes at your stand on Tuesday afternoon" is easier to accept than "let's connect at GITEX".

Get your card ready for the week

Your contact details will be shared more times in five days than in the previous five months. Make them work:

  • One link for everything. A single profile that holds your phone, WhatsApp, website, LinkedIn and company deck beats a card with six lines of small print.

  • A QR code on your phone's lock screen or badge. When a conversation is going well, you want the exchange to take two seconds, not two minutes.

  • Both languages. Your audience at GITEX is as international as it gets, and many of the decision-makers you meet will read Arabic first.

  • A current photo. After a week of faces, a photo is the fastest way for someone to remember which conversation you were.

Prepare a ten-second answer

"What do you do?" will be the most common question of your week. Prepare an answer that fits in one breath: who you help, with what, and one proof point. Practise it until it sounds like conversation, not a pitch.

During the Show: 7 to 11 December

Plan around the new venue

Expo City Dubai is a different trip from the old venue in the centre of the city. Plan your travel time, your meeting points and your breaks in advance, and confirm meeting locations precisely. "Hall X, near the entrance" saves more time than "at GITEX".

Make every exchange a save, not a card

Handing over a paper card starts a process the other person has to finish later: photograph it, type it in, or lose it. Showing a QR code that opens your profile lets them save your contact on the spot, straight to their phone.

It also works the other way. When you receive a card or a link, save the contact immediately, and add a one-line note about where you met and what you discussed. "GITEX day 2, fintech stand, wants a pilot in Q1" is worth more than any business card.

Protect your energy

A week at a show this size is physically demanding. Schedule real breaks, drink water, and do not book meetings back to back across halls. The conversations at 4 p.m. on day three deserve the same attention as the ones at 10 a.m. on day one.

Go to the side events

Some of the most valuable conversations happen away from the stands: at dinners, majlis-style gatherings and smaller sessions around the city. They are quieter, longer and more personal, which is exactly what memorable relationships need.

After the Show: The 48-Hour Rule

Most event value is lost after the event, not during it.

Follow up within 48 hours, while the conversation is still fresh on both sides. Use the channel you used on the day. If you spoke on WhatsApp, continue on WhatsApp.

A good follow-up has three parts:

  1. A specific memory. "Great to meet you at the fintech stand on Tuesday; your point about onboarding in Saudi stayed with me."

  2. A clear next step. A call, a document, an introduction.

  3. Your link. So they have every way to reach you in one place.

Then look at the data. If your card and QR code can report back, you can see how many people opened your profile during the week and which links they tapped. A spike in visits to your company deck tells you something. So does a link nobody opened.

Where POPINID Fits

We built POPINID for exactly this kind of week.

  • One link, one QR code. Your profile holds every way to reach you. Your dynamic QR code keeps working even if you change where it points.

  • Save Contact in one tap. Visitors add you to their phone's contacts directly from your profile.

  • Arabic and English. Your profile's buttons appear in the visitor's own language, and your own words keep their correct direction.

  • Numbers after the show. See your profile views, how often each link was opened and how many times your QR code was scanned.

Set it up now, test it with a few colleagues, and walk into Expo City Dubai with a card that works as hard as you do.

Frequently Asked Questions

When and where is GITEX GLOBAL 2026?
GITEX GLOBAL 2026 runs from 7 to 11 December 2026 at the Dubai Exhibition Centre in Expo City Dubai. According to the organisers, 7 December is the GITEX Scale Summit and the exhibition runs from 8 to 11 December.
How big is GITEX GLOBAL?
The organisers reported that the 2025 edition, held in October 2025 at Dubai World Trade Centre and Dubai Harbour, brought together 6,800 exhibitors, 2,000 startups and 1,200 investors, with participants from 180 countries.
What is the best way to exchange contact details at a trade show?
Use something the other person can save in one step. A QR code on your phone or badge that opens a digital business card lets them save your details straight to their contacts, and a short note on your side about where you met makes the follow-up far easier.
When should I follow up after meeting someone at GITEX?
Within 48 hours, while the conversation is still fresh, and ideally on the channel you used on the day. In the Gulf that is often WhatsApp. Mention one specific detail from your conversation so the message cannot be mistaken for a mass follow-up.
